A Pill for Bed Wetting Medication

Bed wetting is rarely treated as a serious medical condition which is the reason why there is only a limited number of bed wetting medications on the market. These drugs or bed wetting medication usually comes with prescription from a qualified physician because most of it has harmful side effects in the body.

The first type of bed wetting medication that is prescribed for people that have bedwetting problems are Imipramine (Tofranil). This bed wetting medication is considered as an anti-depressant drug. It is usually given to children that are more than five years old. The drug helps in the medication process through the sleeping pattern of the child and also by improving the smooth muscles that are located in the bladder. Though many children have attested that this drug is effective in dealing with bedwetting, it is also a harmful bed wetting medication especially for children. To treat enuresis, children 5 years or older usually are given a dose of 10-25 mg, at bedtime. If one week has passed and the dose did not take effect, the dose can be increased by 25 mg/day. The most common side effects of this type of bed wetting medication are blurry vision, difficulty to urinate, dry mouth, fast heart rate, weight gain or loss, constipation,and low blood pressure when standing. It also causes increased pressure in the eyes of patients that are suffering from glaucoma. Fatal abnormal heart rhythms or seizures can result from an overdose of Imipramine.

The next type of bed wetting medication is called Desmopressin acetate which is now available in different forms unlike before that it is only through nasal spray. Nowadays, this drug is available through Injection, nasal solution, tablets. This is a type of drug which is considered a synthetic form of the antidiuretic hormone. This type of bed wetting medication is effective because it helps the child’s body produce less urine which eliminates the possibility of bed wetting even at night time. Just like the first type of bed wetting medication, this type of bed wetting medication is effective but once it is not taken regularly, it would no longer be effective. This drug should always be prescribed by a qualified physician because there are also side effects when taking this drug. Some side effects include nose bleed, runny nose, and dizziness. If ever this bed wetting medication is used and any of the following warning signs occur: sudden weight gain of more that 10% body weight, confusion, excessive sleepiness, headache, shaking, seizures, nausea, and stomach ache. It means that there is something wrong with the body’s reaction of the drug and therefore should consult a doctor right away to find out what is wrong.

Bed wetting medications are very strong drugs which has dangerous side effects for young people especially kids. These drugs should be taken only with the doctor’s prescription because it is taken without any doctor’s prescription, it could only worsen the condition of the child. The best approach for bed wetting is behavioral treatments because it is safe and lasts a lifetime unlike bed wetting medication.
