Wanted: Bedwetting Help

Bedwetting is considered to be a big embarrassment not only for the child but to the parents as well. This is because society expects a child to solve this problem at a certain age and failure to do so mean weakness.

Bedwetting help could come in different forms and one of these is through drugs and behavioral treatments.

The first type of bedwetting help is drugs or medication which are usually prescribed by doctors to somewhat minimize this behavior or even control it. There are two kinds of common drugs that are prescribed for bedwetting help. The first type of drug is called Imipramine (Tofranil) and it is considered to be an anti-depressant drug. It is considered a drug valid for bedwetting help because it helps in the sleeping pattern of the child and it also improves the smooth muscles that are located in the bladder. Though most of the children who tried this kind of bedwetting help claim that it is an effective type of bedwetting help but once it is stopped, the symptoms often return. Almost 30% of the children who used this drug claimed that it was effective. Despite of the positive effects, this type of drug has harmful side effects which are needed to be closely monitored by the doctor who prescribed this type
of bedwetting help.

The second type of drug is called Desmopressin acetate. This is type of drug is considered as a synthetic form of the antidiuretic hormone which is usually taken or administered through a nasal spray. It is effective because it helps the child’s body produce less urine thus eliminating the possibility of bedwetting. This type of drug is effective yet at the same time stops working once it is not continually taken. This drug also causes some side effects which should be closely monitored by a physician.

Another type of bedwetting help is called behavioral treatment. Behavioral treatments are usually considered as safe and with no side effect and even yields long time results. In order to achieve that, patience and proper training should be always exercised. Though that is the case, the results of behavioral treatments as bedwetting help is continuous because it becomes a part of the child’s routine.

The first kind of bedwetting help for behavioral treatment is called Retention control training which is usually done by asking the child to postpone their urinating habit first by a few minutes and then for a much longer period of time. It exercises the capacity of the bladder and at the same time strengthens the muscle that holds back urination.

The next type of bedwetting help through behavioral treatment is called Night lifting. Night lifting is done by waking up the child periodically at night to urinate and then returning them to bed after. This treatment aims to make a child consider using the bathroom when having the urge to pee and the constant urination of the child would eventually keep them from being wet at night.

Another type of bedwetting help in the context of behavior treatment is Moisture alarm. Moisture alarm is considered a helpful based on countless research. It is done by putting an alarm which consists of a clip-on sensor probe that attaches itself to the outside part of bed-clothing. The alarm is set-off once the child begins to wet the bed. The alarm in turn, would be able to wake up the child and then make them go to the bathroom to finish their urinating process. This type of bedwetting help aims to condition the brain into responding more and appropriately during sleep to messages that are coming from the bladder.
