Bedwetting Teenagers - Do Not Take It as a Burden
Teenagers find it cool to talk about these things to their friends:
- Getting the market's latest game console
- Spending the weekends on a popular beach
- Watching the latest movie
- Winning a prize over the Internet
Teenagers find uncool to talk about these things to their friends:
- How they cried watching the film Bambi
- When they accidentally see that their pants have a large hole in the back while out in public
- How they wet their beds when they sleep
Lots of teenagers all over the world wet their beds at night. It is so common that there's a chance even your friends or classmates have bedwetting problems too. They just don't want let you to know. The fact is, if you're a teenager who wets the bed, you are not alone.
The medical name for bedwetting is nocturnal enuresis. When you have enuresis, chances are another close relative has a similar problem, as enuresis runs along family lines.
Just remember the most crucial thing: you don't wet the bed intentionally. It is something which you cannot control. For some explanation, bedwetting teenagers do not feel that their bladders are full and should therefore go to the toilet. There are some instances when a kid thought he or she has dreamed of peeing in the bathroom, only to find out when he or she wakes up that the bed is wet.
Oftentimes, those teenagers who have bedwetting problems are heavy sleepers. Try waking up a teenager who bed-wets, and most likely your calls end up in vain.
Some teenagers wet the bed every night. Some do it in certain nights only. Most of the time, the bedwetting teenagers have "dry" nights when having a sleepover at a friend's house or a relative's. Probably because they are worried of wetting the beds so they may not sleep as heavily as they usually do. It's like the brain saying to the body, "Hey, this is not your room! Don't wet other else's bed!"
Good News
Bedwetting teenagers, do not fret. The fact is, bedwetting stops at a certain time, as your body grows. If you have a bedwetting problem, do not worry, as in time, bedwetting will cease. Don't even think that you are abnormal, either emotionally or physically. Bedwetting is not generally due to a body problem or if you have anxious feelings.
It is most likely that in time nocturnal enuresis will stop. If you think, however, that your bedwetting is such a problem, then you could ask your parents to take you to a doctor for consultation.
Upon consultation, the doctor will solicit some questions. Answer the questions as truthfully and honestly as possible. Remember that bedwetting is a common problem, and the doctor might even have treated other nocturnal enuresis cases before you.
The doctor will give you an examination. He or she might also ask you for a urine sample to check. If you have some problems like constipation, urinary infections, or daytime wetting, the doctor might ask for extra examinations.
Treat the Problem Coolly
It is understandable that you might feel embarrassed over the whole bedwetting situation, but do not worry about it. Having bedwetting problems is just like undergoing a pimple phase. In time, and with proper parenting, your bedwetting will automatically disappear.
